What is a Holistic Nutritionist?

A Holistic Nutritionist is a trained healthcare professional with a natural, science-based approach to health where the focus is on diet and nutrition. They recognize the importance of treating the whole person, rather than just their symptoms. They evaluate a person’s health status by reviewing their health history, current symptoms and recent food intake (food journals). Based on the information collected, a Holistic Nutritionist will create a personalized a wellness plan to naturally address any nutritional imbalances at the root of one’s symptoms and/or disease. 

The main role of a Holistic Nutritionist is one of education. They take up-to-date, evidence-based nutrition information and make it accessible, tangible and easy to put into practice. A Holistic Nutritionist coaches and supports clients while they make recommended changes and provide tools (meal plans, recipes, handouts) to make the changes sustainable long-term.

Although the focus of nutrition counselling centres around food, natural supplements and lifestyles changes may also be recommended. Testing may also be recommended to identify nutritional deficiencies or excesses that may be contributing to symptoms.
